Fleas
These minuscule insects exist in a multitude of species, among which are flea larvae, known for their consumption of carpets and bedding.
Don't miss them!
Fleas are often overlooked by the unaided eye due to their small size of only 2-3 mm. Moreover, an infestation might lie dormant within a property. Several species, including flea cocoons, can remain inactive for years until they are stirred by the vibration of footsteps.
Flea Behaviour
Grown fleas nourish themselves on the blood of mammals and birds by puncturing their skin, leading the animals to frequently scratch. These pests proliferate rapidly as they deposit eggs in your carpet daily, and upon detecting movement, they leap onto your pet to cause chaos. These bothersome insects can survive for a period of seven to 14 days.
How Can fleas affect me?
In addition to causing discomfort to your pets and infesting your furniture, fleas can also leave their mark on the human body.
Human flea infestations are exceedingly uncommon in the UK, although they do occur. Typically, people get bitten by fleas when handling pets, with the lower legs and feet being the most commonly affected areas. This is due to the presence of these tiny insects nestled in your carpet.
