Silver Fish
Silverfish require damp environments to flourish, so the primary strategy for controlling a silverfish infestation is to dry out all affected areas to prevent them from reproducing and developing effectively. Unfortunately, this approach does not offer an immediate solution, as the drying process can take several months or even longer.
In the meantime, silverfish populations can be controlled in key areas by:
Removing and disposing of old stacks of newspapers, magazines, papers, and boxes of clothes for donation, etc.
Books and other infested items can be placed in a freezer at temperatures below 0°C for 4-7 days. Ensure the books are tightly wrapped in plastic, and leave the plastic on during the thawing process to avoid condensation damage.
Application of an insecticide spray around the perimeter of a room creates a barrier to intercept silverfish moving from wall cavities and entering the room beneath the skirting board.
Application of insecticidal dust into infested voids in ceilings and walls.
